Recently it has become popular in Houston to offer customers the unreal price of $15.50 per linear foot for a 6' cedar fence with 2x6 baseboard, complete with removal and disposal. How can this be? How can any company in their right mind make even a small profit at this price when materials for this type of fence are hovering between $7 and $8 per foot. Add to that the cost of repeated trips to the customer's house for quotes, installation, and check collecting at $3.90 per gallon, the cost to dispose of the old fence, the cost for the crew (any crew worth their salt is going to require at least $4 per foot on this type of fence installation), overhead, and all the rest and the company/ contractor is making about $2 per linear foot profit. I don't know about you, but that just plain stinks. What happened to cost x 2?
If you look at it from a buyer's viewpoint what are you really getting for this price? Is sales tax included in the per foot cost? What is the warranty? I mean anyone can throw up a cheap fence using cheap concrete and offer a 1 year warranty when the fence will fall over in 18 months. How about offering a 5 to 7 year warranty on that fence being installed for $15.50 per foot. Can't do it because the materials and workmanship won't hold up.
So to all those contractors out there slashing the average price on fence installation - you'll get yours eventually. Stop messing with the industry and just build a solid product for a decent price.

ReplyDeleteThe goal of a good rundown is a good stop and the best stops are those where the horse’s body is perfectly aligned and in balance; therefore his body must be aligned and balanced in the rundown. A sliding stop is only as good as the rundown to the stop.rail fence
ReplyDeleteSo you wake up in the morning motivated and ready to complete the fence installation that you have been working on the past few days only to realize that there is an awful downpour outside and a forecast promising thunderstorms for the rest of the day; what do you do?
